G. F. Hanel: "Largo" for orchestra This is the aria "Ombra may fù" from the opera "Xerxes" (Serse) by Handel, a love song of the king of Persia, Xerxes, to a tree. It is one of Handel's most famous melodies and often simply called as "Handel's Largo". This is an orchestral version in the instrumentation of August Reinhard (1831-1912, German composer and author of a harmonium-school). The material exists of two flutes, two oboes, two clarinets, two bassoons, two horns, three trombones, a harp, violins 1 and 2, viola, cello and double bass.
